As part of the Devices team, the tech lead role will capture the needs of the business stakeholders and work with the firmware, hardware, creative and manufacturing teams to create and update geo’s devices.

geo is creating a sustainable future where homes automatically and seamlessly manage their overall consumption and carbon footprint. In addition to providing management and optimisation systems and data analysis for solar, EVs, batteries and home heating, the company is a leading supplier of in-home displays to the UK Smart Metering programme.

We’re focussed on bringing net zero forward with our ground-breaking home energy management system – SeeZero. We’ve deployed more than 11 million devices to date, saving an estimated 7.5 billion kilowatt hours as a result, and the introduction of SeeZero will see that number multiply.

Job role

As part of the Devices team, the tech lead role will capture the needs of the business stakeholders and work with the firmware, hardware, creative and manufacturing teams to create and update geo’s devices.

The scope of the role includes:

  • Lead the design, development, manufacturing and deployment of new product features
  • Collaborate with product managers, designers, and stakeholders to define product requirements
  • Help the technical teams deliver relevant estimates for work packages
  • Guide development teams to produce viable technical proposals
  • Communicate the wider business constraints around a new product or feature, and propose a pragmatic way forward
  • Ensure that the development teams stay on top of technical debt
  • Help troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues
  • Identify improvements in the technical process around tooling and process flow
  • Ensure compliance with industry regulations, including safety, radio and protocol certifications.

Requirements

  • Education and experience
    • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field
    • 5+ years’ hands-on experience in a relevant engineering discipline
    • 2+ years’ experience in a leadership role
    • Experience of delivering and supporting a high volume IoT product from development, into release and through to support in the market.
  • Skills – essential
    • Agile development practices (eg. Scrum or Kanban)
    • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to make data-driven decisions
    • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, especially between technical and non-technical teams.

  • Automation of tasks (eg. Python scripting or use of HTTP REST interfaces).
