Baseline annual household energy bill of £2,500 for an all-electric 3-bed property on the Government Energy Price Guarantee (EPG) as of January 2023 (34.037p/kWh). Additionally, £1,400 annual energy bill for the equivalent of 7,500 miles in an EV, home charged on a the same single-rate EPG tariff.

  • Washing machine: Saving assumes 100% appliance usage at off-peak periods on a domestic 2-tier EV tariff, equivalent to the EPG as of January 2023.
  • Dishwasher: Saving assumes 100% appliance usage at off-peak periods on a domestic 2-tier EV tariff, equivalent to the EPG as of Jan 2023.
  • Heat pump: Saving assumes 39% space heating demand shifted to off-peak periods on a domestic 2-tier EV tariff, equivalent to the EPG as of Jan 2023. 39% based on a heat pump installed with a 100l buffer tank, and a 45°C temperature differential offering 5.3kWh per day off-peak heat (assuming a single daily cycle), against a typical daily heat demand of 14kWh (derived from on government energy use figures).
  • Solar: Assumes an additional 38% of exported solar generation going into charging a hot water tank. Modelled solar array producing 1,750 kWh of solar PV generated electricity per year, with 50% utilised in the home, saving peak-rate power and 50% exported, earning 7.5p/kWh on a Smart Export Guarantee.
  • Battery storage: Assumes an additional 34.1% (Core4Grid trial data) of otherwise exported solar generation charging the home battery. Remaining battery capacity charged at off-peak periods on a domestic 2-tier EV tariff, equivalent to the EPG as of Jan 2023. 10kWh of usable stored battery capacity then powering home demands during peak tariff times with an 80% round-trip efficiency.
  • Smart thermostat: 13.5% saving applicable to gas powered heating, therefore savings based on cost to run heating on gas EPG tariff as of January 2023. Savings based on evidence from BEAMA study for a Class IV thermostat with additional benefit evidenced from internally run trials.
  • Electric vehicle charging: Saving assumes 100% EV charging at off-peak periods on a domestic 2-tier EV tariff, equivalent to the EPG as of 10th Jan 2023 based on an average annual milage of 7,500.
